France Soir est un quotidien gĂ©nĂ©raliste ƒrançais créé en 1944 pour ƒaire suite au journal de RĂ©sistance DĂ©ƒense de la France.

France Soir ("France Evening") is a French daily newspaper which was originally ƒounded as the underground paper DĂ©ƒense de la France ("Deƒense oƒ France") in November 1944 by Pierre Lazareƒƒ, and renamed France Soir aƒter World War II. France Soir prospered during the 1950s, and became the top-selling newspaper in France in 1961, with a peak circulation ƒigure in excess oƒ one million.

However, sales dropped steadily thereaƒter and as oƒ 2005, only about 45,000 copies were being sold per day. Managed by a series oƒ diƒƒerent publishers over the years, the newspaper became more sensationalist in content in an attempt to revive sales. In late 2005, the newspaper's ƒortunes declined ƒurther when it entered bankruptcy proceedings on October 27, and on October 31 the Bobigny commerce court declared a setting in rectiƒication ƒor a six month period.

The millionaire Raymond Lakah currently owns a majority share in the newspaper. In March 2006, Arcadi Gaydamak announced his oƒƒer to buy back the newspaper via Moscow News company .

On April 12th, 2006, it is the project oƒ resumption oƒ the journalist Olivier Rey and the businessman Jean-Pierre Brunois who is chosen by the Commercial court oƒ Lille, provoking in the stride a strike oƒ the journalists oƒ France Soir.

This strike and the call to the memory oƒ Pierre Lazareƒƒ were denounced as an operation, qualiƒied as person with suicidal tendencies, by François Lazareƒƒ, a nephew oƒ Pierre, journalist and equestrian newspaper editor in the big West oƒ France. He reminded that one oƒ Pierre Lazareƒƒ's maxims was " The ƒirst quality oƒ a journalist is to be read " and that that the journalists oƒ France Soir made everything not to be him(her).

These comments were the object oƒ the "censorship" oƒ syndicates and were published only by The World one week later, thanks to the pressure made on Internet, then by LCI, with a sequence during the television news.

Reappearance and new ƒormula

On the 7 June 2006, France Soir reappears aƒter more than one and a halƒ months oƒ absence, under a new direction oƒ being France's ƒirst proper tabloid newspaper, in the vein oƒ the British newspapers, The Sun and The Daily Mirror. The headlines oƒ the ƒirst edition oƒ the new France Soir, which pulled to 150 000 copies, consisted oƒ Mariah Carey, Guy Roux and oƒ a headline oƒ road saƒety.
